Maple Valley Plastics is know for their ION putter, and it's unique gyroscopic structure, featuring a lighter plastic in the core of the disc paired with a heavier overmold. This GYRO technology concentrates the mass of the disc along the outside edge, making the discs movements more gradual. The end result is a disc with much more high speed stability and less low speed stability than you'd normally expect out of a disc of this kind. The ION is from start to finish perhaps the straightest driving putter ever made.

Now MVP has applied this same technology to an overstable midrange driver. This basically means that the disc will have a very substantial amount of high speed stability, and while it is also very low speed stable, it doesn't come so suddenly. I compared the Vector agains the Pain and the Hornet, and while there were many similarities especially between it and the Pain, and while the Vector was more overstable, the change from flat flight to fading was more gradual. I couldn't turn it over without a purposefully bad throw, but with a good rip on a low line the disc will penetrate forward quite handily while fighting it's way to the left. It's not suited for hard fading dump shots like for example the Drone is. For such an overstable mid it does have very good glide and speed, on a flex line you can get it out surprisingly far. And unlike with many other midrange discs you don't have to power down when you throw this one. The gyroscopic properties of the disc are most apparent in heavier weights, since the core plastic is always the same, different weights are achieved by tweaking the overmold.

The most obvious difference between the Vector and every other disc in the market is the worksmanship. It is basically very much like a Roc in shape, and it might look a bit funny with the black rim, but it is no toy. Everything about it starting from the even dome, the clearness of the plastic, the joints between the core and the overmold and the MVP, Vector GYRO and PDGA Approved logos molded on the overmold give the disc an overwhelming aura of quality. It's the difference between cheap badminton racquets found at gas stations and a professional Yonex. The difference between a toy and a tool. One of the best parts is how the flash is on the side of the disc and not on the bottom, meaning it won't change it's flight characteristics as quickly as other discs as the flash wears down.

The Vector is one of the best overstable midranges on the market, and has some things going for it that others can't claim. The gyroscopic properties of the disc give it characteristics that are hard to achieve in other ways, while also making the disc more durable. My IONs have hardly changed since I started throwing them even though they've taken a severe beating during last season. MVP is also the most consistent manufacturer of discs out there at this point, so you'll get what you're ordering. Being a very overstable disc it's not the most versatile flyer, but it is superbly reliable at what it does.
